Classes for children 5-9
Young Artists

5-8 years old

Saturdays 9:30-11:30

This 2-hr class focuses on developing observational, technical, and fine motor skills. Students work with a variety of art mediums and craft materials while being encouraged to explore, experiment, and create. In this class we start with a project-based format: kids will be offered specific subjects and materials. This structure allows us to expose kids to techniques and subjects they may not have thought before. At the same time, we will be gently introducing new students to our method: idea--sketch--material/technique--execution.

Because our approach relies on a gradual accumulation of skills and habits leading up to a student’s independent thinking, planning, managing materials etc., this class is offered in Full and Monthly sessions only.

Our young students are allowed a longer break (approx 20min) in the middle of our 2-hr class. This is a time for a light snack and play. There is plenty to do on our wooded playground, which encourages movement and socialization.

Supply is included in our rates.

Full Session (3 months) - $400

Monthly Sessions  $120-160

Drop-in - not available

*Best value. Full Session cannot be prorated. Enrollement open in September, December, March. Read our POLICIES for more details

Art Foundations

Sundays 9:30 - 11:30 AM

7-9 years old

This class is the next step for our “rising” 7-year-old Young Artists and a comfortable start for new students, ages 8-9.  We will focus on learning the fundamental elements of design and composition by mastering a variety of techniques and materials. Students are encouraged to make each project into their own unique creation  and will learn how to independently bring their own ideas to life. They will have more freedom with art supplies, selecting what they want to work with and they will gain more responsibility for taking care of art materials. One of our goals is to learn not to rush through the steps and understand the importance of details and quality over quantity. Most of our projects will take 2-4 weeks to complete. This class is offered in Full and Monthly sessions only.

Students will have a 15-20 min. snack/play break in the middle of this 2-hr class.

Supply is included in our rates.

Studio Art I

Saturdays 12:30 - 2:30 PM

10-12 years old

Our learning process is largely based on developing student’s critical thinking and their ability to identify and correct mistakes. It's not as dramatic as one might think, but there ARE mistakes in art, and “hunting” them (with teacher’s assistance) can be great fun as we learn more about this approach. Our students also learn to support one another by giving their peers positive feedback and encouragement. This 2 hr class is suitable for 10-12 year old children and experienced 9 year old Sirin students who can work independently. Students will work in small groups on individual projects and may choose the subject, genre and medium as it suits their area of interest. Emphasis is placed on creative exploration and producing quality art pieces.

This class is offered in Full (3 months) and monthly sessions (3-4 classes) formats. Space permitting a drop-in option is also available.

Art Camp for Grown-ups

9 to 5 doesn’t have to sound so dismal. Let’s get rid of the stigma: give yourself the gift of a super fun day and sign up for our Nine-2-Five: Art Camp for grown-ups. This is a pilot program, created with more mature and busy students in mind. The longer day allows for a slower pace as well as time to rest and recharge. The program for adults has all the perks of camp for teens (field trips, fun challenging projects, social time, etc.) yet offers even more flexibility.

Play with Clay!

Mondays 3:00 - 4:30 PM

5-9 years old

Does your child love playing in the mud? Do they like making and building things? Working with pottery clay will satisfy all those interests and encourage their creativity. This 90 min class, exclusively focused on ceramics, is perfect for younger children with a lot of imagination and little to no experience handling pottery clay. We will work with different types of clay (terracotta, white low fire, and high fire), learn about its nature and flexibility, and of course – the basic techniques of hand building. We will produce little usable vessels (cups, plates, bowls etc.). But there is so much more to pottery clay than utilitarian (though beautiful!) objects. It is a wonderful material to learn sculpture, carving, building and more. We will use beautiful glazes, acrylic, and tempera paints to decorate our creations.

This class is offered in monthly sessions (3-4 weeks) *, which would be enough to complete the project(s). If a second kiln firing is required (for glazed works), finished artworks will be ready for a pickup within the next two weeks after the end of session.

The cost of materials and firing is included in the tuition.

Monthly Sessions (3-4 weeks) - $105-140**

*See calendar for specific dates

**Discounted rates are offered to the students enrolled in FULL SESSION  or taking Play with Clay! in addition to our regular classes ($90-120 ). Contact us for details.

Creative Ceramics

Mondays 5:00 - 7:00 PM

Children 10+ and Adults

This class is intended for older children and adults, with a beginner to intermediate skill level in ceramics. Even though we will produce some usable pottery pieces, our students will be encouraged to look beyond the utilitarian qualities of pottery clay, to see this wonderful material as a great medium of artistic expression. We will focus exclusively on hand building techniques and sculpture, as well as different ways you can decorate and embellish your creation. We will work with different types of clay (terracotta, white low fire, and high fire) and glazes, exploring their nature and the possibilities each of them can offer. Our students are going to observe hands-on demonstrations, get individualized instruction, as well as be assisted in their own creative endeavors.

This class is offered in monthly sessions (3-4 weeks) *, which would be enough to complete the project(s). If a second kiln firing is required (for glazed works), finished artworks will be ready for a pickup within the next two weeks after the end of session.

The cost of materials and firing is included in the tuition.

Monthly Sessions (3-4 weeks) - $140-180**

*See calendar for specific dates

**Discounted rates are offered to the students enrolled in FULL SESSION or taking Ceramics in addition to our regular classes. Contact us for details.
